Trip Adler is the child of Stanford neurosurgeon John R. Adler Jr.. He grew up in Palo Alto, California and attended Gunn High School. Anne Wojcicki, who would later co-found genetic testing startup 23andMe, was Adler's babysitter, when he was a child. Adler attended Harvard University, where he initially embarked on a pre-medical school track of study. Adler later switched his major to biophysics.
